Fret Restoration #
We can do a complete overhaul of your neck’s frets and bring your instrument back to life!. Of course, the fingerboard of your instruments type of wood does matter in this case and some hard woods like maple, rosewoods, black limba and many others require extra care of pulling the frets out from the fretboard.
Fret removal requires heating the fret individually and we also employ bringing the fingerboard/neck (wood) itself to a warmer temperature. Especially, with hard maple. The heat allows the metal to soften a bit and minimize grain pull, while the fret is being pulled out. Additionally, applying slight moisture and humidity also helps prior in its preparation. The harder the wood the more likely material will be pulled. Especially, with stainless steel frets. So, applying heat is crucial and this procedure is the standard for most luthier’s worldwide.
Below, we employ a level system to help determine the type of restoration and repair.
